Sustainability & Social Impact

Becoming a Sustainable Essex Wedding Venue

At High House, we have a deep respect for our environment and a genuine connection to our community.

For us, sustainability isn't just a trend; it's a fundamental responsibility that we are actively ensuring is within our venue operations and developments.

Sustainable Practices in Action

Our first year as a Xenia Venue has been about planting the seeds of change, and we've seen some great impact in our initial actions.

  • The Orangery: Our upcoming Orangery (opening Spring 2025) is more than just a structure; it's a testament to thoughtful design. It is replacing the marquee to be more insulated both thermally and acoustically. This will minimise our energy footprint and ensure celebrations that take place at the venue maintain the peace of the area.

  • EV Charging Spaces: We're plugging into a cleaner future by installing Electric Vehicle charging points, empowering our guests and suppliers to choose sustainable travel.

  • Conscious Consumption: As we continue to develop High House, we are committed to replacing existing items with low-impact, sustainable alternatives and are committed to thinking about the environmental impact of our decisons.

  • Transparency as a Cornerstone: Our sustainability policies are shared openly to be transparent about our journey, foster collaboration and inspire change.

Sustainability Commitments

As a group, Xenia Venues is committed to continuous improvement and have set ambitious goals for the next 12 months:

  • B Corp Certification: We're pursuing B Corp certification, a rigorous measure of our commitment to people and planet, validating our dedication to purpose-driven business.

  • Living Wage Employer Accreditation: We believe in fair wages and we're committed to becoming a Living Wage Employer, ensuring our team thrives alongside our vision.

  • SME Climate Commitment: We will join the SME Climate Commitment, aligning our actions with the global effort to combat climate change in the Paris Agreement.

  • Food Made Good Standard: We recently introduced in-house catering and we're striving for the Food Made Good Standard - ensuring our menus are as ethical and sustainable as they are delicious.

  • Locally Sourced Menu: With in-house catering now introduced, our aim is to offer a 30-mile menu that focuses on sustainability and animal welfare. We’d like 80% of all fresh produce to be sourced from aligned suppliers. This will not only reduce food miles, but it will also support our local economy.

  • Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG): We're committed to a 15% Biodiversity Net Gain, revitalising our landscape and contributing to a thriving ecosystem.

  • Alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals: We will assess our operations and align where appropriate with the United Nations 17 Goals to Transform Our World, contributing to a more sustainable and equitable future.

At High House, we believe that creating unforgettable experiences and operating sustainably go hand in hand. We are excited about our progress and are committed to continuing our journey towards a more sustainable and impactful future.
